Lampposts Become the New EV Charging Frontier

Voltpost and EVSE pair US-made hardware with software to speed curbside charging rollout.

Voltpost and EVSE have agreed a strategic partnership to expand lamppost based electric vehicle charging across the United States. The arrangement pairs American made hardware with a software platform built to accelerate curbside deployment in dense cities, where dedicated charging space is scarce.

The centrepiece is the Voltpost Air, a Level 2 charger that mounts directly onto existing lampposts. Installation takes hours rather than weeks, since it requires no new civil works or dedicated posts. EVSE will manufacture the hardware, including a patented retractable cable system, while Voltpost runs the software and manages relationships with municipalities, utilities and private site hosts.

Mounting the charger above street level, rather than at kerb height, is designed to cut vandalism risk. That has long been an operational headache for curbside programmes in busy urban corridors. EVSE said the technology has already passed pilot testing with cities and utilities, including the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting, and has held up across a range of weather conditions.

The approach targets a structural constraint in urban charging: the lack of dedicated space and the high cost of new construction in built out neighbourhoods. Voltpost has added business development leadership to support the wider partnership, positioning the company to negotiate directly with the municipal and utility stakeholders on whom the lamppost model depends.
